E-E-A-T: Showing Real Experience and Expertise on Your Website

E-E-A-T is a framework from Google's rater guidelines, not a score you can optimise directly. Here is how to show real experience and trust in ways readers and search systems can both recognise.

E-E-A-T stands for experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trust. It is a framework from Google's Search Quality Rater Guidelines, which human raters use to assess the quality of search results; it is not a single ranking factor or score. Google has said its systems use a mix of signals that align with what E-E-A-T describes, so the practical goal is not to "optimise for E-E-A-T" but to make genuine experience and trustworthiness visible on your website.

What E-E-A-T is, and what it is not

Google employs external quality raters to evaluate search results against detailed guidelines. Their ratings do not change the ranking of any individual page. Instead, they help Google judge whether its ranking systems are producing good results. E-E-A-T is one of the concepts raters use.

The original framework was E-A-T. Google added the extra "E" for experience in late 2022, reflecting the value of content written by someone who has actually done the thing they describe.

So:

  • It is a useful description of what high-quality, trustworthy content looks like.
  • It is not a metric, a plugin setting or something you can add with markup.
  • It is not applied identically everywhere. Raters are told to hold "Your Money or Your Life" (YMYL) topics — health, finance, safety, legal matters — to a higher standard.

The four parts in plain terms

  • Experience. Has the author used the product, delivered the service, visited the place? First-hand detail is hard to fake.
  • Expertise. Does the author have the knowledge or qualifications the topic demands?
  • Authoritativeness. Is the site or author a recognised go-to source for this topic?
  • Trust. Is the content accurate, honest, safe, and is the business behind it transparent? The guidelines describe trust as the most important of the four.

Showing it, page type by page type

Page type Evidence of experience and expertise Evidence of trust
Service page Real process steps, photos from actual projects, named lead for the service Clear pricing factors, terms, licence details where relevant, real contact routes
Blog article Named author with relevant background, first-hand examples, original screenshots or data you gathered Sources for factual claims, last-updated date, corrections when things change
Case study Specific problem, approach and outcome, with client permission No inflated claims; results stated with context
About page Founders and team with real roles and histories Physical address, trade licence information, how to complain or get support
Product page Your own photos and usage notes, honest limitations Returns policy, delivery terms, genuine reviews

Author pages that do real work

An author byline linking to a profile page is one of the simplest improvements. A useful profile includes:

  • The person's full name and role
  • What they have actually done in the field — years in practice, types of projects, qualifications
  • Links to professional profiles such as LinkedIn
  • The topics they write or review

If a qualified person reviewed an article written by someone else, say so: "Reviewed by [name], [role]". Do this only when the review genuinely happened.

Higher stakes in regulated UAE sectors

Several UAE sectors fall squarely into YMYL territory and are also regulated: healthcare providers licensed by the relevant health authority, financial services, legal services and real estate. For these businesses:

  • Show licence or registration details where the regulator requires or permits it.
  • Have clinical, financial or legal content reviewed by a qualified, named professional.
  • Avoid claims that could breach advertising rules; health and financial advertising in the UAE carries specific restrictions, and you should confirm current requirements with the relevant authority.
  • Keep content current. An outdated visa or licensing article erodes trust quickly.

What does not work

  • Invented authors or credentials. Fake personas and stock-photo "experts" undermine trust the moment they are noticed, and can be misleading to consumers.
  • Generic AI-written text presented as first-hand experience. If no one with experience reviewed it, it does not demonstrate experience. See AI-assisted content workflows for where human review has to sit.
  • Badge collections. Logos of awards or associations you cannot substantiate do more harm than good.
  • Expecting markup to substitute for substance. Author and Organization structured data can clarify who is behind content, but it does not create expertise.

AI search tools also need to judge which sources to rely on, and the qualities E-E-A-T describes — clear authorship, accurate facts, a transparent business behind the page — make your content easier to trust. That is a sensible reason to invest in them, not a guarantee of inclusion in any AI answer. Consistent brand facts help too; see entity SEO.

Key takeaways

  • E-E-A-T is a rater-guideline concept, not a direct ranking factor.
  • Trust is central; experience is about first-hand detail.
  • Show evidence page by page: named people, real process, sources and transparent business details.
  • Regulated UAE sectors need qualified review and current information.
