Preparing your website for AI search mostly means making sure it is accessible, readable and unambiguous for every system that might use it — Google's crawlers, other search engines and the crawlers run by AI companies. In practice that is a site-level check across six areas: crawler access, rendering, content clarity, language versions, business identity and measurement. None of it requires a rebuild for most sites, and none of it guarantees inclusion in AI answers; it removes the obstacles that would otherwise keep you out.

This is the technical and structural companion to AI SEO for UAE businesses, which covers the overall strategy.

The readiness scorecard

Work through each row and mark it green, amber or red.

Area Question to answer Where to check
Crawler access Can the crawlers you want reach your pages? robots.txt, CDN or firewall settings, server logs
Indexing Are your important pages indexed by Google and Bing? Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools
Rendering Does key content appear in the HTML without heavy scripts? View source, URL Inspection
Content clarity Do priority pages answer their main question directly? Manual review
Language versions Do Arabic and English pages match and link correctly? hreflang setup, manual review
Business identity Are name, address, phone and WhatsApp consistent? Site footer, contact page, listings
Performance Do pages load quickly on mobile? Core Web Vitals report
Measurement Can you see AI referrals and branded demand? GA4, Search Console

1. Crawler access

Start with robots.txt. Check that it does not accidentally block Googlebot, Bingbot or any AI company's search crawler you want to allow. Many sites carry old rules written for a previous site structure.

Then check the layer most people forget: your CDN, firewall or bot-protection service. Some of these services now offer one-click blocking of AI crawlers, and on some it may be enabled by default. If your goal is to be available to AI search tools, confirm what is being blocked and why. Your server or CDN logs show which bots are actually reaching you.

Decide deliberately whether to treat training crawlers differently from search crawlers. Our explainer on how AI search engines discover and reference content sets out the main crawlers and their purposes.

2. Indexing and rendering

If a page is not indexed, it cannot be used by search-based AI features. Google's guidance for its AI features is that a page must be indexed and eligible to show a snippet; there are no additional technical requirements.

Rendering matters because not every crawler executes JavaScript as fully as Googlebot. If your service descriptions, prices or FAQs only appear after client-side scripts run, some systems may see an empty page. Server-side rendering or static generation avoids this. Modern frameworks make it straightforward; see why Next.js works well for business websites. For a full health check, start with a technical SEO audit.

3. Content clarity

Review your ten most important pages. For each, ask:

  • Does the first paragraph answer what the page is about and who it is for?
  • Are key facts — services, areas served, process, what affects cost — written in text rather than locked in images or brochures?
  • Does each section make sense if read alone?
  • Is it clear who stands behind the content and when it was updated?

Pages that fail these checks are the best candidates for rewriting.

4. Arabic and English versions

Bilingual sites in Dubai often have an English version that is complete and an Arabic version that is partial or machine-translated. AI tools answering in Arabic can only draw on what exists in Arabic. Check that:

  • Priority pages exist in both languages with equivalent content.
  • hreflang annotations correctly connect each pair.
  • Arabic pages are properly right-to-left and readable on mobile.
  • Business details are identical in both versions.

5. Business identity on the site

Your contact page, footer, About page and Organization or LocalBusiness structured data should all state the same name, address, phone, WhatsApp number and hours. Structured data helps search engines interpret this, but it does not guarantee rich results or AI citations; it simply removes ambiguity.

6. Measurement

Set up a GA4 channel for AI assistant referrals, monitor branded search in Search Console, and add "AI assistant" as an option on enquiry forms. Without a baseline you cannot tell whether anything you change makes a difference.

What about llms.txt?

llms.txt is a proposed convention, suggested in 2024, for a Markdown file at the root of a site that summarises its key content for language models. It is optional and unofficial. No major AI search provider has confirmed using it to decide what to retrieve or cite, and Google's guidance says no special files are needed for its AI features. Adding one is low-cost and harmless if you want to, but it should sit well below the items above in your priorities.

What to skip

  • "AI-optimised" versions of pages written separately for bots. Serving different content to crawlers and users is cloaking and breaches Google's spam policies.
  • Mass-generated question pages. Large volumes of thin pages tend to hurt.
  • Paying for guaranteed placement. No one can sell guaranteed inclusion in AI answers.

Key takeaways

  • Readiness is mainly about access, rendering, clarity, language parity, identity and measurement.
  • Check CDN and firewall settings as well as robots.txt.
  • Make sure key content is in server-rendered HTML text in both languages.
  • Treat llms.txt as optional, with no confirmed effect.
